Just bought a 2005 Acura RSX to use as a store demo car. If you could use ANY equipment from Alpine, Kenwood or JL, what would you guys put in this car.

I would look for a combination of the best of all three manufacturer's products to showcase your store's inventory.

I've done a few demo cars for my boss. How did we go? it's simple...

Head unit...what ever looks cool!

Speakers...what ever looks cool!

Subs...what ever looks cool!

Amplifiers...what ever looks cool!

Get the drift? posted_image

I guess I should elaborate a bit more....I say go for looks here because you are showcasing what you are capable of doing, in the long run you will be using high end gear, it's going to sound good without any help from you...Kenwoods vs. JL? Come on, in reality they are both good and your average Joe from off the street isn't going to pick any faults in the sounds and to be honest, the majority of us in here won't either, so looks are going to make your car the winner.

BTW Lotsa flashing lights help as well! posted_image

I say go for midline SQ.

Show people how good it can sound without going nuts on drivers and amplifiers.

This is the setup I would respect seeing the most as a demo car.

You should use the W7 though. :)

That's exactly what I wanted to hear! The BIG question is , do you go crazy and put in $30,000 worth of parts and labor, or do you go with something people can actually afford, say about $3,000? I'm thinking Alpine D-310, JL 300/4, JL 500/1, Alpine SPX-177 (X2), JL W6V2 12". And yes Nik, LOTS of fiberglass!

Yea I'm alot more impressed with a demo car that I can actually attain than a line-up of uber-expensive parts from premier manufacturers... I look at that crap and salivate enough online I don't wanna see it in a car in a store I'm spending money in..

Ultimately, it feels discouraging.

I recall, to great effect on JL's marketing department, a demo car JL did for CES 2003 got the best of show or best sq or something using a line up TR stuff (the budget line) and something like 450watts off of 3 small amps.

A three page list of $500 parts does not make me nearly as interested.

I say go with an Alpine HU, Mcintosh or Nakamichi amp, and Adire Audio sub(s).

For the wiring... GO with the cheapest shielded cables you can find.

I like Alpine Guy's suggestion. That's exactly what I would do. I do like JL's speakers too. But I think by using Alpine speakers, it'll seem like a much more realistic setup that everyday customers could obtain.
I would, however, definitely throw a W7 or two in there. Just for the shock factor. I was left in awe after the first time I got in my cousin's Eclipse after he got his 13w7 installed.

Yep, and I understand that he wanted to use what he had in stock.

But I believe that your showcase vehicles should give possible customers a glimpse at some of the best work that your shop can do.

I mean, if I walk into a shop and they have a show case vehicle out front that is comprised of all pyramid/legacy gear, I'll be running out of there like someones shooting at me.

I second the notion of an affordable, but really well installed car. But I caution you, make sure you use a few pieces that are high end. If people are too impressed with the demo car that is middle of the road, then they will definately not see a need to spend more if they like this. I would say put in a new 9855 as HU, JL comps, and subs run off alpine amps. Even if you are trying to build an affordable car, people see a demo car as the best you can do, so don't limit yourself.

Poormanq45, What if you walk into a shop, fall in love with the demo car, and then they tell you "sorry we dont carry that stuff" It makes no since to showcase products that you don't sell.
