So, I have finally gotten my deck back from getting fixed from Pioneer (AVIC-N1) and I put it back into my Tahoe. Before I got this deck fixed everything was running great. The only thing I replaced during then was my +12 volt wire running from the battery.

To make a long story short, my front amp (and only amp) wasn't turning on. So, I checked the multimeter. I noticed that I was only getting around 3 volts of power to the amp, as well as only 3 volts of power from the remote lead as well. Looking at the diagnostic menu of the AVIC-N1, it said that I had around 13 volts. While also checking the battery terminal, I had about 13 volts.

So, the only possible conclusion I've came to made was that perhaps I have a bad ground. So, I checked with the multimeter to see what the voltage was between the ground and the battery, and it still read 13V.

Visually looking at my battery, I noticed there has been a lot of massive corrosion on the +12V side. Nothing salt looking, but more like a dark charred blackish look to it. I've tried scrapping it off with a wire brush but it looks like the whole thing is like that. I'm assuming my battery is possibly at fault?

Any ideas?

It has to be a bad ground at the amp or where you grounded your meter. It is very unlikely that the power wire coming from the battery and the remote coming from the deck to both be 3V.

I can show pics of it, but I'm geussing that it highly likely has to be a ground problem. I'm going to try finding a new place to ground it. Its in the rear seats of my Tahoe, so I was thinking perhaps unscrewing one of the bolts for them a little and attaching the wire to that, or would it be best to run a ground wire from the battery, especially if I will be planning to use higher loads later.

what gauge is your power wire...? did you ever up-grade ground from battery's negative terminal(that connects to chassis of vehicle) to the same gauge as power...?

black corrosion on the battery isnt good. clean it and see if the voltage is good at amp.

Like I stated, Ive tried cleaning it using the chemical battery terminal cleaner, as well as a wire brush, and a tool from Kragen which is a circular wire brush to clean the terminal. Either way, my best guess, now that I think about it, is that it must be a grounding issue since both the remote and +12 from the battery were low voltage wise, but would it make sense that it would only drop this low when the ignition isn't turned?

we run into this alot at work...we deal w/ all types of batteries...even purchase used ones...replacements and such...anyhow we find this black charred positive terminal alot...wire brush attachment for drill doesnt work.we use simply a pair of pliers, with good teeth and spin around the terminal,,,let me know if this works
