My head unit is rated at 4Ohm and my sub woofer/amplifier are both rated at 2Ohm. Is this why it wont play at high volume, or am I doing something else wrong.   Thanks

As far as I know the impedance ratings of your subwoofer and amp should have nothing to do with your HU.

Nik's right , one has nothing to do with the other. I would check if it's choking for power ( corroded battery cable ) or if your ground on your amp is solid.
