Now I've seen 12" midbass drivers in the front kick of cars. Is that overkill or is it right? And what ever happened to the horn drivers? I sat in a bunch of cars with these crazy things and somehow these guys tuned them up very well. I can only imagine how hard it must have been though.

A 12" up front is a waste of time and energy, in my opinion. The same effect can be acheived by close attention to smaller midbass drivers up front and a properly crossed over larger subwoofer in the back.

Horn drivers are usually used as tweeter replacements for imaging purposes. I don't like the sound - or the price.

I think you would be surprised at how much of a difference it makes.  It really is an experience to hear a subwoofer mounted up front.  However it isn't practical at all.  For the most part I do recommend people taking your recommended action unless they are a little crazy. posted_image

All the cars I've ever been in with woofers up front were amazing. I'm just worried to try it myself.

A 3 way set up is just perfect , it offers so much more than a normal component system can offer, , possibly try that route before sticking 8's or 10's up front.

By a 3 way system i mean a dedicated 6.5" midbass woofer, a 5.25" mid range woofer, and a tweeter.
