Can anyone give me the full scoop on the '04 GTO's audio system? Wire colors, radio and speaker removal procedures, and any little tidbits about the factory setup would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

that's a lot of info to try to regurgitate for you... what exactly are you trying to do/ replace/ install?

They don't use it like most American-built GMs do, to do retained accessory power, door chimes, etc.(assuming the radio gets data at all.) I'd assume there is some sort of data link to the radio, because the driver information center in the dash displays radio station/CD & track info - also it's got speed compensated volume which is adjustable via the driver info center controls.

I'm not planning on replacing the factory H.U. since it's so integrated with the car - what I would like to do is hook up an FM-modulated CD changer, and add a subwoofer and amp. To do this I need to know:

1. How to remove the factory radio.
2. How the audio system is amplified - I think it's got at least one external amp, no clue where though.

Any help on those? Thanks

ok...I've found out how to get the radio out. It's got a special tool, pretty much like Ford keys except the prongs are farther apart(it's Metra part # 86-3526). Wiring harness is a 70-1784 and it's got VW style antenna connections.

That still leaves unanswered the question about the amplifier setup. Anyone got any idea?
