hi all!   i'm planning on getting a new 4 channel amp to power my front component and rear 2 way speakers.  i currently have an alpine HU and have been happy with alpine HU's in the past but have never had experience with any of their other products.  i have heard that jbl makes good amps from some friends of mine.  i am looking   for something that is reliable and has some power.  i was looking for something like the alpine mrv-f540  or the jbl gto075.4  any opinions?  thanks!

Yea looking at them I think you would be happy with either.. the build quality and power output look fairly analagous.

Personnally, I've never used an Alpine amp but I had a JBL 40x4 for *years* that I thought was out of this world. My first amp, but it was champ I'll tell ya that. =)

I'd go with whichever one you a)like more or b)can get cheaper.

I have a JBL amps and I love it, but I have also heard good things about Alpine amps. Alpine amps seem to have a few more options then JBL, but they also cost a little more. One way or the other you cant lose.

I dunno pimpincavy I looked at those amps at the RETAIL (that 100% blown up figure) is listed at $375 for the JBL and *$650* for the Alpine. That thing is not worth anything near that.

Get the JBL man I bet u could get that thing for waayyy less than the Alpine.. no way you like it any less I promise!

Get the Alpine, just don't pay $650 for it.

::EDIT::
It's $275 on eBay from Ikesound

Alpine is way overpriced. There are plenty of other brands out there that are far superior to Alpine and are a lot cheaper (amplifier wise). But in this comparo, I'd take JBL (they've been in the sound industry for many many years)

I'd go JBL without a doubt. Durable amplifiers, really durable along with the rest of their product line. Save the money man. Go JBL.

Go alpine, depending on what head unit you have, with the Alpine amp you can connect it via AI-link and control specific amp features right from the head unit. And alpine amps last for ever, I have personal experience with that fact.

I've blown 7 alpine amps, they don't last forever. I blew one 12" JBL subwoofer, thats the only one i've e ver blown by JBL. I've used many of their amps and i highly recommend them. Check out that BPX1200.1 crazy thing...

I doubt a mono alpine amp would have a s/n any better than the JBLs. JBL makes great amps.

Old school alpine is good (I own a 3523) but the newer stuff seems to be just O.K. If the JBL does the same job the alpine amp would for half the price, why not buy the JBL instead?

The alpines have a much better S/N rating than the JBL's, at least according to the spec's. The MRD-1005 is rated at 90DBA as where the JBL BPX1100.1 is rated at 67DBA.

Better yet are the MTX Thunder series amps, the 801D that I am running is rated at 100DBA.

I would probably never buy any alpine amp until they lower their prices. But I'd probably never buy a JBL amp either because they are too cheap.
