ok, so im putting 2 xbox's 2 17" screens and like 4 speakers in my trunk, all i need to know is what i need to adjust the vloume comming from the xbox to the spekers, i was thinking like an amp, but you really cant adjust the volume, and i dont want another head unit in my trunk.
Assuming your xbox has a line level output, you need a line-level volume control like a PAC LC-1 to control the level going to an amp.

Support the12volt.comI know that Alpine makes a surround sound processor/EQ that has multiple inputs for things like xbox's and DVD players, that is what I used when I had my PS2 in my truck, the difference here is my deck is also an Alpine, and it has an AUX input for things like that that can be controlled right from the HU.
This probably does not help you at this point, because it sounds like your deck does not have an AUX -in.
You can get an "in-line" volume control knob from like Radio Shack, or home deopt (home depot will definetely be cheaper), the only issue with those is, I think they are designed for speakers; they are rated at 50W max (@8 ohms) , and since you would have a different volume control for the left and right side, it may or may not be easy to control, that and it is a little ghetto. If you did want to go that route, and just made them hidden, you can just splice one end of an RCA and connect it to the volume control and connect the other end of the RCA to your cables that run to your amp/deck
This is probably not a very good idea in a lot of ways, look, comfort, and since you would be doing this straight from the Xbox output, you will have a very small range of volume (basically the volume controls will be very touchy) and it will be very easy to match the gain on your amp and possibly blow your speakers if your gain is set too high.

ok, well the xbox does have a line level output, but i has a left and right, so that PAC LC-1 might work but it looks like its just for a sub or something. And my head unit does have an AUX in, but i dont wanna have 4 more speakers in my trunk always going when im playing music, and i dont wanna have the front ones going when im playing in the trunk.
Well i now have a better idea of how this will work but what i need is some device that has a left and right in, and a left and right output, with some sort of regulator. And im not going to be using any crazy speakers, just some alpine ones.
The LC-1 is stereo and can be used as a pre-amp with any line-level signal. You can use any stereo preamp, EQ or line driver that has a volume control.
