i installed a pyramid 1600watt amp and ss120 kicker subs with a 2100watt audiopipe amplifier kit. I wired everything correctly and my amp light would not turn on. the wiring is 4 gauge wire (for power and ground). the ground wire is on a bolt connected to the metal frame of the body. The rca's are rockerfoscape twisted. the subs are wired with 16 gauge wire. The power wire runs next to the driver side door. the rca's run next to the center console. I thought my amp was broken (even though it was brand new). i had my friend bring over his amp. when we tried that his amp, the power light flickered on and off and i didnt get sound threw the subs or tweeters. His amp is 720watt (pioneer) and he uses it so it works. I drive a 1986 toyota celica. the head unit has been replaced with a recent model from sony and it has the amp remote wire attachment. My friend says my car just doesnt provide enough power. what is going on with my system and how do i fix it?
Sounds like a grounding issue check all connections then test all connections with a DMM.
Also check your remote wire and see if it has any power running through it. some times even a new deck this could be a problem. you can jump the remote wire with a constant 12 volt source to see it the amp turns on.

Make sure your grounding spot is clean of paint and rust sand / file it right down to bare metal. Also clean your battery posts and check that the power wire has a good clean connection at the post. double check all fuses.
thanks for ur help. i got my system up and pounding today
