1989 Chevrolet Cavalier: Okay, I used a multimeter on the wires according to the wiring diagram. I found the switch 12v+ wire. But there is no constant 12v+ reading for the specified wire or any other wire for that matter.I'm about to go nuts with this problem because the CD player won't keep memory otherwise. Somebody help me here ASAP. ------------- "A man begins cutting his wisdom teeth the moment he bites off more than he can chew."

Check the fuse. It has to be there but will not read 12v if the fuse is blown.

there are no fuses blown. unless there is another I do not know of. Plus the switched one reads right. If it were the fuse wouldn't nothing work? Could there be another problem with something else?

Nope. There are 2 different fuses. One live and one switched. If you are not getting power at the wire that you are supposed to be getting power at, either a fuse is blown or the wire is cut. Unfortunately my service manuals don't got back to 89 so I can't tell you which fuse it is. Look in your owners manual it should say. Make sure there is power at the fuse as well. IF there is power on both sides of the fuse and not at the wire, the wire is cut somewhere.

Check the fuse on the constant wire ?? If nothing else run a new wire from a constant source to the deck.

Yup, as Velocity said.....Check the fuse, and double check all the wires in the harness.... If you still don't get a thing..just run a new 12V+ to the deck... And cause I'm in such a giving mood...here ya go... It's the white wire in the ignition harness...Remember double check with your DMM.... ------------- Đễẳ†ђş 12\/ Ĵęśŧē®™

White wire at the ignition harness???? I would say it would be red. I doubt there is even a white wire at the ignition harness, except maybe the brake lights going to the turn signal switch.

Also Player...that's what DEI gave me, I tripled checked it there before I posted...but TY...I should have posted the standard codes we're used to as well..since I could have gotten the few freak cars, and DEI could be wrong...

listen the constant fuse would not be in the incar fuse box it would be in the engine compartment in a box also combined with relays so check all the fuses in there. ground your dmm and use the pos side of dmm to check all fuses it easy leave fuses in and take pos stick and poke little metal ends that come out of the top of fuses , poke both sides if you get pos 12 from one and not the other than the fuse is blown if you get nothing and the car is Off that is fine , but word of advice test with car in run possition or all the way before start.

djferany2 Lots of times there are constant fuses in car. In fact I doubt very much that the car has a fuse box under the hood. Likely only a couple fusable links. DeathsJester - no problem. Makes no difference to me Sometime I really wonder where these companies get their info.

Same here...TRUST NO COMPANY!! Trust only your DMM... but as we all know..there are a few cars, that have messed up wiring...mostly due to the manufacturer changing teh harness over, and those few still had last years, or the new years harness...messed up...thank god for the DMM ------------- Đễẳ†ђş 12\/ Ĵęśŧē®™

Well, guys, it is fixed. It was a fuse I overlooked. Thanks for everything. The orange wire is the constant source.
