Hey guy's,

I am going to install my new Diamond Audio components tomorrow and I was reading the literature on them today. I am slightly confused here, everyone that I talk to says to position the tweeter as close to the midrange as possable. Diamond Audio states that it should be positioned as close to head level as possable. Any coments on this?

I'd be really wigged out if Diamond Audio says that.. I've found that pointing tweeters right at my head is the *worse* way to install a componet set.

Can we find this literature online?

Without reading what Diamond says, I'll shoot from the hip and say install next to the midrange, as far from your head as possible. Try to point each tweeter at the opposite doors' window pane.

Proper positioning of tweeters *almost never* has them on-axis (pointed directly at the head of the listener).. I can assure you of that.

Unfortunatly there is no available literature on Diamonds website for this set. Not sure why? But, the is the direct qoute from the manual I have:

Try listening to the tweeters in several positions to get the best imaging results BEFORE YOU CUT YOUR PANELS! Ideally, tweeters should be mounted as close to ear level as possable; the best visual location may not be the best sounding one.

This is directly from Diamond.

I'll throw out my 2,500th post by saying: Diamond is right. See how carefully they worded that phrasing, especially emphasizing the need to try several locations first before making a commitment. And they are careful to exclude the relative positioning of the mid drivers in that paragraph, because, ideally, the mids would be positioned higher than we can normally find to put them in a car, too. So in respect to all that, they are correct. You just have to go the extra steps and account for the mid drivers, too, when you position the tweeters....as there is going to be a crossover transition in frequencies between the two that you want to go smoothly. Too much distance will corrupt that transition.

"The driver of the car is the Star." It is at the driver's head that the tweeters should be aimed. If the tweeters are too bright, then search for ones that please you more. If they are too loud, adjust the response. If you try to please everybody with positioning, nobody will be pleased. But you can please ONE person....and that, of course, is the guy driving the car.

But then, I'm just a newbie with my ear to the ground...

You are so correct stevdart. I just finished installing them and ended up with the tweeters being within 4" of the midbass drivers. Sounds great to me!
