toasting subs

Exactly what sub do you have? Whats the RMS rating of the sub?

sorry my sub isnt titanium(the first one was, but I toasted that one in two hours)I was wrong,but the last two have been aluminum..thought that might make a difference...thanks john

Is this the amp you have?

The original sub you had (Ti) was 450W RMS, 4-ohm, DVC. Which means it would have been running at 2-ohm. That amp is capable of putting out 800W RMS @ 2ohm. Its very simple to figure out thats too much power, and can blow the woofer.

Now you say you have an aluminum, which handles even less power. Do the math.

We're talking about the Eclipse subs right? First off, if you blew one of the Titanium subs, you need to learn how to set your gain right, I'm willing to bet thats your problem. Second, the aluminum has a RMS of 450, if your putting 1000 to it, with the gain the way it is, your gonna keep blowing speakers until you stop replacing them. That box probly aint the best either. Look into a new one.

hey thanks guys for the eye opening that was given to me, I finally gave up and wired it just like I should (non bridged) it works, but not what I  am used to....I had a 40 dbi fosgate amp w/2 12 series ones(leftover from high school) which thumped far more than anything I have put into my vehicle so far(now the fosgates where in a car trunk ,compared to the eclipse inside of my full size blazer) maybe I just need to get a dub 7 with their amp and stop bitchin about it...or????? any ideas will help, or should I just hook up the 40dbi to the eclipse and deal with it, it moved two 12s prior with no problem( and no chance of blowing either)I dont want to finish my interior speakers until this problem is ironed out.I am currently sitting on some equipment that should work together, but what should work best with what is the ?, amps=old skool fosgate 40dbi,kenwood 7201-800w,kenwood 8101d-1000w, subs=eclipsesw7124dvc-T4,JL 12w3v2-d4-300w, or the old stuff 12 fosgates series 1from the90's, I would prefer the theory that less is more but, if I have to I will shove another sub in there if needed(originally I bought two 12w3,with two kenwood7201's, it wasnt bad, but it seemed like there should have been more)(I had taken 1 amp out of the lineup originally, but it just didnt sound good)I am so close to giving up and letting the neighbors get their well needed rest, but lets try one more time:).....thanx for your patience...john

There is something very wrong in your setup. Could I hazard a guess that your gain and bass boost are cranked? I am running an Eclipse Ti (one) on an Eclipse DA7232, 4000 watts (OK, 2700 watts at 4 ohms), and I have never blown one yet. The Ti and aluminum subs are all very capable drivers, and will easily handle more CLEAN power than the spec sheet says. I spoke with the techs at Eclipse at the CES this year, and they told me they run 1500 watts per voice coil on the Ti line...

Check your gains, turn off the bass contours, check your box... The aluminums want a bigger box than do the Ti's, and if you just replaced the driver in the same box, here is likely where your problems are happening...
