Ok can someone please tell me what type of amp I will need for two subs? There are mono, 2 channel, 3 channel, and so on. Do I need a two-channel amp if I wanna hit with two subs? I know it's a dumb question, but I need to know. Thanks.

No, for subs you only need one channel. You want a a mono amp or a stereo amp capable of being bridged. Here's a beginner's guide to choosing an amp for two subs. Find the RMS (or continuous) power rating of each sub (NOT the peak rating, this means nothing to you.) Add the two ratings together. This is the total watts you do not want to exceed. Now determine the impedence rating of each sub (this is measured in Ohms) and if the subs are SVC (single voice coil) or DVC (dual voice coil.) How you wire the subs will determine the net impedence load on the amp. There is a calculator on this site (look at the links to the left) to help you if you don't know how to calculate impedence. In general, you want to wire your two sub system so that the total net impedence load to be 4 ohms or higher for a SQ setup or 2 ohms (in general) for a setup designed for SPL. Now you know the total power rating of both subs and the net impedence load you will place on the amp, go find a mono amp that can supply up to the rated power into the net impedence you intend to create. Or a stereo amp that can be bridged into these numbers. Bridgeable stereo amps are generally cheaper than mono amps. I usually recomend a mono class D amp for subwoofers. I also recoemdn that if you have never done this before, you pay for help from a pro in your area and learn. Cheers. ------------- Support the12volt.com

It might be a good amp for some peoples uses. What kinda of subs are you running, model numbers are helpful here

Well I was just wondering if that was a good amp at all...some people just don't like the brand, or something like that. I could definitely match the subs to fit the amp, seeing as how that's supposedly a hell of a deal. I think Rockford's supposed to be a good brand, so I could get one of those amps then match a couple subs to it. What do you think? Maybe a couple Brahmas?

First off I would use that to run 1 brahma mabye and second off good luck getting your hands on one right now. If you wanna run a set of subs I would look at a mono block amp but thats just me. However I cant remeber the impedence on the brahmas. If they are dual 4 ohm then the amp is a decent match for two, but if they are dual two ohm then I would use one of those amps on one of those subs and watch in awe.

Hmmm...so if I bought two of those amps and hooked em up one apiece to the 15" Brahmas it would really shove wouldn't it? I have an explorer so my old subs dont shove as much as they used to in my car, that's why I'm lookin for new stuff. I want some real shove this time. I would probably be best suited with a bandpass box in an SUV, correct? I'm going for SPL.

I would use a ported box before a bandpass to save some sq, plus I am not sure how the brahma behaves in bandpass, I am guessing stephan has something to say about that (he is the residing Adire expert on this site), but yes if you hooked up one of those amps to each sub and provding they are either dual 2 ohm voice coils or single 4 ohm coils they will absolutly rip. Those amps arnt toefficent though so you better have a big ass altenator to run those bad boys.

OK thanks for your help. Hopefully I will get some good stuff here pretty soon. All I have right now is a couple 12" Xplods and a 800 watt amp and it sucks. It was decent in my car but it doesn't do anything in an SUV.

If you are looking for spl I suggest checking out the MTX 9500's. The are availible in a single 4 ohm model which will be good for those amps, and regardless of the actual ratings on the box, will handle that kinda power all day and night and absolutly love it.

Also look into the Resonant Engineering XXX, they are similar to the Brahma.
