I am looking at two alternators from irragi on ebay, this one only produces 80 amps at idle
https://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/dll?ViewItem&item=7958528388&category=33573

Where as this one does 125 at idle
https://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/dll?ViewItem&item=7958528392&category=33573

So is the second one worth the extra hundred dollars? Do I need to have that much power during idle? Any suggestions would be great. thanks

You want the highest most amps at idle as you can get. The last thing you need is your system, and possibly car shutting down at a stoplight. That being said it really depends on how big your system is, you really night not need the 45 extra amps.

hmm, so I guess the higher output one is more ideal, as I am using about 1500-1600 wrms. 1100 to subs or so.

That's what I would go with. The extra money would be spent later if the cheaper alternator was under stress.

pipincavi is right on,    your power is going to suffer the worst at idle   lower engine idle = lower idle on the altrenator = lower output to battery thus power drop at amps.      little to much explanation .    at least you arnt like us,    trying to solve the problem of a system with 360amps worth of draw!       the largest alternator out there is a 200 and we can only run one battery and one alternator in the division my GF competes in.     fun stuff

yeah I knew it, but its better than putting new batteries in and eventually replacing the car's computer!

gonna have to utilize that damn credit card. thanks everyone for the input!

And not to over do this, but buying from ebay in this instance is advisable?

In the case of an Iraggi alternator, ur not really buying 'from ebay' but a guy that just uses their site to set up shop.

I'd buy there in a heartbeat.

Hey I just recieved an email from onw of the guys at irragi alternators, I asked him the same question, which alternator would provide enough power for me even at idle and he suggested the lower of the two.

What you folks feel about this?  What is the formula (watts to amperage draw) to figure this out?
