I am a complete noob when it comes to car audio, i am trying to simply instal a stereo to my car, i have removed my radio cassette player. im looking at the wires and connections from my cars power supply and im looking at the new stereo wires and im thinking sh*t there not the same connections and the wires are different colors. so...

i have a Renault clio the stereo is a SONY CDX s2200

so far i have worked out that there is a ground wire, 12v constant and 12v switched and speaker wire from the stereo. the other wires are not of concern... i think >_< (im not thinking about the amp, sub ect)

from my car there is also the same wires, but they are different colors and have a different connecter. i thought ok what if i cut the car power wires and join them to the stereo wires that makes sense! but i feel like i might be doing something wrong. any advice about how to wire the power from my car to the stereo? i dont want to blow the fuses or get electricuted thanks

i have a feeling this question cant be asnwered that easily without seeing my equiptment, but its worth a try

Buy a multi-meter! or test lamp. one of those spare wires is ILLUMINATION / not needed. but dims screen when lights are on.

how olds the car? have the wires in the car been chopped B4? what area do you live in?

Dude,...If the wiring from the car is standard it would have plugged straight in? I hate it when someones been in there & cut everything, REACH FURTHER IN IS THERE MORE CONNECTORS?

Renaults have ISO connectors, top plug is for the 4 speakers, 8 pins l/r-.l/f-.r/f-.r/r-. &++++under!

then theres the same 8 pins on the 2nd connector s/p. n/a. e/a. +15. under: t/m. +30. ill. neg.

the clips are staggered so you can't plug in the wrong connector. Every stereo you buy here has ISO's.

thanks for your help, appeciate it

ok i feel like an idiot now, the wires you see in the picture are for the previous tape/radio i had taken out. i unplugged them and realised there was an iso connection >_<

i plugged the stereo right in, how stupid that i didn't notice that. i guess no one replied becuase it was too basic of a task. thanks for letting me figure it out myself.

i finaly got a mp3 plyr for my car, iv got two 3 inch 8watt speakers in the front, there BADASS!! well actualy they suck!

i want a nice sound in my car eventualy, but for now i only want to fit 2 50watt speakers in the front.

I have a clio 96, the factory speakers are located under the fans on the left and right. the space in there is very small, too small for 50watt speakers i think. so i need advice about where the best place is to put them and how i can achieve this.

(i am a noob when it comes to car audio, any help would be very much apreciated)

Put them in the doors. You'll need to cut out holes for them and run new wires through the door boot ( if applicable ) and then run it to the back of the deck.

yeah i had thought of that, it seems like the logical thing to do. i have more questions, how do i cut the hole in the door? what kind of speaker wire should i use? do i disconnect the factory speakers and use the same wire to connect to the new speakers? thanks

First you have to remove the door panel and trace out the inner speaker ring so that the magnet passes through the door panel. Re-install the panel and trace out the shape onto the door and use either a jig saw with metal blade, air recipricator or the old tin snips. *** Make sure before you even cut a hole into the door panel that the area that you choose will allow the window track to move freely and that the hole doesn't end up taking out a support for the door/window brace.

I would say use at least a 14 gauge wire ( if not larger ) and run it straight to the back of the deck. Once you pass through the door with a new wire wrap the wire in electical tape and use split tube looming to protect it fromt he elements.

If you're gonna go thru the trouble of fabricating new speaker mounting places, I would go ahead and make the large enough for 6.5" speakers. You will get more full range sound with a 6.5" than wih a 3" speaker.

I have a little clio i wanted to upgrade my sound system, so far i have bought a sony cd/mp3 player, and some 4inch 120watt speakers which i have fitted in the font to replace my factory speakers. my head unit has 4 outputs 50watts per channel (i think)

so i tested it out, and i was dissapointed, the speakers are small and dont put out any bottom end, although they are pretty good for high end.

at the moment i cant splash out on sub and amp, i want some speakers for the back, but i want some nice sounding bass which gives a more full sound in the car, which (size and power) speakers should i get? i have no clue, i thought i should have gotten 50watt speakers for the front and back, someone told me i need some head room for a better sound. can someone please help me choose the best speakers

Don't worry so much about the power rating on the speakers, that makes no difference to how they sound.  I don't know anything about your vehicle.  What size speakers can you fit into the factory openings?

You should go to a car audio shop (or wherever you buy your stuff from) and listen to different speakers they have on display. What size of speakers do you have in the back?

i have only replaced the factory speakers in the front, they are 4inch the space in there is small so i couldnt fit anything bigger in there.

I do not have speakers in the back yet, so the sound isnt very good at the moment.

i spent 35 quid on the speakers they are sony xplod 120w i just want to know which size and power to get for the back speakers

One thing that I would suggest is, looking into a way to upgrade your front channel first. Look at doing some kicks with at least a set of 5.25"s. Most of us usually use the rears as fill only, like me, I am using as set og Diamond Audio 6.5" components in the front and a cheap set of MTX 6.5" in the rear.

Even with the addition on the rear speakers, I highly doubt that you will like the sound.

Where are the front speakers located in this car? Maybe we can give you some ideas as to how you could upgrade them.

Does your friend know how to customize door panels? If so, he maybe able to set you up with a decent front channel.

i have posted a topic on this before, i have still not come to a decision, i need some further advice. so far i have:

renault clio 1.2 (96 model)

a sony explod s2200 MPOutput = 50W X4 (at 4 ohms)

Sony xplod speakers 10cm 3 way. 120w peak power. 25w rated power
(maybe someone can explain what this means exactly)

i wasnt sure what speakers to get, i thought that to save time and work i could just instal thoughs 4inch speakers to replace the factory speakers, they are located under the fans (no room for larger ones).

so after i had intalled them, i was dissapointed, i wasnt sure what to exspect really, i hadn't even tested the speakers out in the shop. Now i am thinking of 2 different things to do next to improve the sound.

idea 1:

get some 6x9 and instal them in the back parcel shelf

idea 2:

get another pair of speakers more powerful, (with lower frequency responce) and instal them in the fornt doors, so i will have 2 sets of speakers in the front. leaving the back empty until i can afford sub and amp.

i am being told to go with idea 1, but then someone else will say "nah mate.. get better speakers up front"... please advise!

well, 3 way speaker means there is a tweter a midrange and a middbass speaker in one speaker area. the power rating that realy matters on those is the 25w rms, thats probably what your head unit is rated too + or - some whats so you should be allright when it come to matching the power ratings,

if your looking for a quality sound, build your front stage first, and dont worry about the rear, do the rear later just to fill in the sound.

go with quality speakers youll hear the difrence, sonys are ok, but i dont like them. they dont seem like they are balanced enough for me.

you could always go with component speaker they usualy sound way better,

i have decided to take the advice on upgrading the front

my final question for this topic is:

with the 4x50w output from my HU can i have 4 speakers in the front and 2 in the back? is this possible? i ask because it would be a shame to take out the factory replacement 4inch speakers. if i cant then i will simply uninstall the 4inch speakers and put some quality speakers into the door panels

thanks to everyone for your help
