I have a 1992 VW Passat. I am installing an aftermarket cd player. I have the wiring harness and the antenna adaptor. I have connected all the wires properly and still the stereo does not work. I talked with someone that said I have to run a wire to the ignition switch. Can anyone make sense of this or help me out.

Thanks

Geoff

form the car does it have a: ISO 8/8 Euro-connector?

if so the VW only has a main power feed- on the bottom 8 connector / 1st pin on the top row.

Below that 1st pin is the earth/ground.

the stereo needs an ignition or another constant 12v to the 3 pin on the bottom row to power it.

most stereos have a couple of breakout bullet connectors failing that you'll have to test all the wires!

& chop'n change em.

Yes, that's more than likely correct.  A lot of VW's have a barrier strip you can see near the kick panel if you drop the under dash.

If you have this, you can test for an accessory lead there.  Then just unscrew the connector, add your wire, and put it back together.  Done- no need to even tap any wires.
