Sup fellas I used to have a Benz and my current system sounded and felt alright in there.  However, I now have a 2003 Explorer and the bass can barely even be felt.  I have a couple questions.  I don't quite have the money right now to get bigger amps and subs, so is there anything I can do to improve the sound?  I have a fold-down third row seat and I have them down and just sit the subs on top pointing towards the back of the car...would there be any difference if I changed the positioning of the subs?  Also, would it make a big difference if I dynamatted the rear door?  The rear window rattles badly and drives me nuts, but I don't know what to do about it.  Any ideas concerning these questions or any other ideas.  I appreciate it.

You may want to list what you are using. Subs, amps, type of enclosure etc. Perhaps you have something mis- wired? if it sounded alright in your previous vehicle and have now lost sound in your suv, something sounds fishy. Are your subs in phase? if they aren't they may cancel themselves out causing a loss of sound.

Who did the new wiring?

To your question about the best way to place your box, it is through you experimenting with it! Dynamat will make a small difference in spl and diminishing rattles, but nothing dramatic more of a sq improvement.

Ok I'm running two Sony Xplod's in a sealed box with an 800 watt Sony amp.  On a few songs the bass actually hits harder, but on the majority of the songs it isn't felt as much.  The sound is still there, I just can't feel the bass as much, and that's what I'm trying to get.  I have the factory six-disc indash cd changer as the head unit, so that might make a little difference.  In my old car I had an Alpine head unit running the subs.

Yeah, you have different systems thats why, if you had everything the same as you had in the benz, it would definately be louder in the suv.

Well hell I didn't realize that the head unit would make that much of a difference.  I would've kept the Alpine if I would've known that.  I hope to eventually get some better subs and amps, but for right now I might just look for a better head unit...is that a good idea?

Better head unit will definately help alot, it made a world of difference when I got my new deck in over the factory one.

The deck is the first upgrade that should ever be made.

The deck will make a difference in the system not just for control, but for power.  You said you used to have an Alpine, if it was fairly new it had four volt preouts for your amplifjier.  The higher the voltage, the stronger the signal your amp is getting.  This is a major player in subwoofers, they will hit much harder.

Well then I definitely shouldn't have let that Alpine go with the Benz, but I didn't have too much of a choice in that matter.  I guess I will look into an Alpine head unit or somethin else when I get my graduation money.  Anyone know where to get a decent touch-screen head unit for around $1,000?

The new pioneer 5700 is around a G american I believe. I know it retails at 1399.99 up here north of the border. Its a nice deck and has a good set of sound options on it. Just my opinion.
