Subject: Need amplifier advice

I own a 2003 Ford Explorer with a Pioneer deh-7600mp head unit, Infinity Kappa 5 x 7's in all four doors, and I'm going to be installing an Infinity Perfect 12.1d sub in a sealed 1.0 cubic foot box in the rear.

Right now, I am powering the Kappa's with the head unit, so they are probably only seeing 20 watts RMS. They are rated at 100 watts RMS and I want to get an amp to power them at that, and and amp to power the sub which is rated at 350 watts RMS but can easily handle more. I would probably be looking at around 500 watts for the sub. My question is, should I try to find a single amplifier to power the speakers and the sub (and do they make 100x4 and 500x1 5 channel amps) or should I get separate amps for each?

And, which amplifiers would be best for the job? I am not looking to spend a fortune, but want qualilty amps in the medium-end range. Thanks in advance.

One more thing, what is the consensus on Phoenix Gold amplifiers? Yea or Nay?

If you are looking to save space, then definatly go for the single amp. As for PHG, I have never really heard anything bad about their products. Not sure as to what you are looking for in an amp but, I have personally heard the 700.5 from kicker and it rocked. But, really, it would be best if you could experience it for yourself.

Thanks for the suggestion, space isn't really a concern, I plan on just putting the amps under the rear seats so they will be out of the way regardless. I have been looking, and it seems I will be hard pressed to find a single amp that puts out 100 watts x 4 channels plus at least 400 watts rms to a sub channel. I will probably go with two amps. I'm basically looking for an amp that will cleanly power the subs and satellite speakers. I want to be able to get it loud but retain sound quality. I'm concerned with SQ over SPL. I want to rock but don't need to be heard from two blocks down the street.

I was thinking that anotehr option may be to just get a 2 channel amp to power the front speakers, let the head unit power the rears for fill, and then get another amp for the sub. That way, I could get a five channel amp and just bridge the channels to get more power to the fronts and the sub. I would still like amp suggestions...thanks.

Well, the kicker KX700.5 puts out 85x4 and 420 to the sub channel. Thats not enough?

According to Cardomain.com, the specs on the KX700.5 is 70 X 4 and 210 to the sub at 4 ohms. So I would be looking for more sub power than that. My kappa's are rated at 4 ohms and the sub can be run at either 2 or 4 ohms. The specs don't say anything about running that amp into a 2 ohm load.

I see the specs your talking about now....that is at 2 ohms. Can I run that amp into 4 ohms for the satellites and 2 ohms for the sub? Or does the load have to be equal across all channels?

The sub portion of the amp is seperate from the rest of it. You can run your mains at 4ohms and your sub at 2ohms.

Not a problem, if you have a local Kicker dealer close to you, I would go check it out first, just to make sure that it is the right amp for your application and I know that it is a pretty big amp as well.
