foam rubber or solid rubber ?

well I have heard that the soild rubber helps with linearity, so the sub will remain clean during excursion, and I have heard the foam rubber for SPL is better because it is able to push further,   i dont know really just some things I have heard. I think the rubber is better as far as wear and tear go

Rubber lasts longer and resists the climate better.

On the other hand, I don't think I ever see any car audio people keep a system for over 5 years. The foam will last well longer than that even in a crap climate. I don't think it matters much. Go with the appropriate woofer for your application, your pocket book, and your ears. Surround material wouldn't be a consideration for me - at all.

agreed ^
if the motor structure of the woofer is able to main linearity well enough, it really only matters that there is a surround there, as opposed to what it is made of.
