I recently purchased a single Infinity Perfect 12 vq in a GBv - 1.376 cu.ft. / NBv - 1.251 cu.ft box. I also got a good deal on a Kenwood KAC-9102D Subwoofer amp. It seems that I may have two many watts with this amp.

If this amp cannot be hooked mono to this sub or if I will only be able to hook up one side of the amp. I would like to get another one instead, as this Kenwood can still be returned. If I have to purchase another amp I am looking in the 200.00 range give or take a few dollars. This setup is going in a 1998 Grand Cherokee 5.9L. Thanks for any help! Please be kind I am a new to car audio! Brandon |
From the specs that yo have posted, that amp should be ok for that sub. When buying the Perfect, did you get the SV model or the DVC model? ANd if you bought the DVC, did you get the Dual 2ohm or Dual 4ohm?

It's a VQ it also says normal ipedency 4 ohm on the box. Do I bridge the amp or how do you suggest hooking it up? Will bridging the amp give it a 2ohm load? Thanks again!
Ok, you only need to connect the sub to one set of speaker terminals. With a SV sub rated at 4 ohms, you are stuck with 4 ohms to put it directly. In order to get the impediance down to a 2ohm load you would need to add another 4ohm sub wired parrallel.

Chris, thanks for the replies. I got a really good deal on this amp. But it seems with one sub, I am only using half of the amp. If I could do better with a $200.00 amp somewhere else please let me know. Otherwise I think this amp will give me 500 watts. Thanks again
It will actually give you less than 500 watts as those are Dynamic numbers rated at 14.4 volts. But I bet that it will still rock.
What type of enclosure do you have the 12 in?

And as for a different amp, My money still rests with MTX, Serious bang for little dollars. They are american built and tough as nails and are seriously under rated with their output specs.
Example: MTX Thunder 801D (which is what I am running at the moment) is rated at 500 watts into a 2ohm load at 12.5 volts. The built sheet states 582 watts @2ohms at 12 volts. All I have to say is Damn, thats almost 700 watts at 13.8 volts which is the voltage that my amps see and I got it for $160 refurbished off E-Bay.

I second the MTX notion. The price/performance is right on.
