Does anyone know anything about the Clarion APA4300HX? I am pretty impressed with its specs (.002% THD), not that specs everything. It has a pretty hefty price tag for a Clarion amp (retail $899 gets you 75x4rms), but how does it compare SQ wise with other upper-mid to high-end amps (i.e. McIntosh, Butler, PPI Art Series, JL, etc.)? It has some pretty nice features, but is it just bells & whistles?

Don't buy clarion anything.  If your going to spend that kind of money, find a real amp.

I appreciate you responding to my post, but a little more thoughtful critique would be nice. I realize that most clarion amps are no where near "high-end", nevertheless I was curious about this one and their claims. Here is a link to the Clarion APA4300HX.

For the most part, Clarion amps are okay at best, but the 4300 is actually a good sounding amp, very clean and decent power. I believe you can do better for the money, but you could certainly do worse.

Thanks, I appreciate the input. Part of the reason I mentioned the 4300 was that I can get it for $480, which seems like a really good deal. Do you have any recommendations for other amps in a similar range?

I have been very impressed with the sound of the MB Quart RAA4200. I just wonder how long Quart will be around.

Unless you know something I don't, I figure Quart will be around for quit a while because Rockford is making too much money from them. I love the look of the MB Quart RAA4200, it is very classy. As well, the front mounted controls are a nice feature. However, I have been concerned with them. I have heard some mixed reviews from respectable people on this site. I would love to hear them, though, and judge for myself. Thanks

I noticed a Phaze Audio (Butler) TD-475 that ought to have a very nice sound. At this point, I figure if I can't get that I'll go for a JL 300/4. (I wish I never sold my PPI A600.2 back in high school posted_image) Right now I have a RF 801X it has been a strong amp for me, but far from "sonic perfection."

Actually, Rockford is looking to sell Quart.

As far as the amps go, we had it on a board with the JL 300/4, and it was a much smoother sounding amp. I use the Quart Q series 4 channel in my car, and the Reference series is not far below it in sq.
