What is the big difference in a LA cap and another off brand cap that has the same farad at the same voltage? Is there any difference?

No, no difference, they won't do anything either...

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

oh man you are asking for it, you better do a search on this site about caps and find out about the reality of their uses.

More often than not they are used for the wrong purpose.

Here's the search for you... read a few of those threads, and you'll know what I am referring to. I hope you didn't buy it yet...

Here's another one...

...and still another.

Slog through those for a while, then come back and you'll see what I mean.

As long as your charging system is capable of handling the power needs of your setup, there's nothing wrong with a cap.  It will help stabilize the voltage your amps see, helping them last longer.  If you are trying to "fix" a light dimming problem, then you need to upgrade your alternator/wiring no if's/and's/but's about it.  'Nuff said.

And I thought some other forums were bad. I originally asked if there was a difference in name brand and generic caps. only one person put any input about the original question in. They do help, I have only good things to say about caps when they are installed for the proper application. I was really just wondering if there was any difference. The second question was clearly directed only to the second post.

Do you mean our forum is a bad, or perhaps not-so-helpful forum? Did the other forums help any more? You asked what our opinions were of off-branded caps were, and I answered.

I am glad thet you understand that "when installed for the proper application" caps are (can be) helpful. My answer still stands, and my answer is the same anybody else's answer would be. No, there is no difference, as long as the voltage and capacity are the same. They ALL come from one or two manufacturing facilities anyway, and when you spend more for something with a pretty label, or fancy lettering on it, you are paying for either the fancy lettering or the brand name. If you insist on using a cap as a band-aid (which is what they are MOST OFTEN recommended and sold for) the searches I posted for you tell you why they are no good for that purpose. I thought our answers were quite helpful.

Please do not jump to any conclusions - some of us actually do try to help, but we also help you learn. If you feel the other forums are "more helpful", is that because they just give you an answer and you went away with a complete answer (one that met your needs at that moment, thus the complete part), or did you go away with an education? Hang around, provide some input, take some knowledge with you. We have some of the BEST and SMARTEST people here... I have never even posted ONCE at any of the other hundreds of car audio forums - most of them SUCK, and many of their posters can't find their asses with both hands, technically speaking.

The sense of humor can be a bit dry occasionally, but everybody here is willing to help you out when you have a problem...
