hey you guys i have 4 12's and there going in a ported box. There gonna be in the back of my dakota extended cab. I am taking out the back seat. I am not sure which way to direct them, either all 4 downfiring or all 4 facing towards the front of the car. I heard that if i point them all down it would probably be louder. Also im not sure if to port it or not, i have the airspace im just not sure if it will make a big difference. what do you guys think and also what does it mean to invert your subs, i read it on some other posts. thanks

I'd say the front of the cabin. It's obvious you want to be loud, and that the way I always see big SPL guys (I mean high scoring) mount their subs.

I had 4 subs in my s-10 extended cab and fired all 4 of them strait ahead in a ported enclosure and won my local circuts. I ported my box quite low as well (27 hz) so it wasnt exactly a great spl box but it was my daily driver so I needed to retain a little sound quality ( BTW I took second in a sq contest as well). If I had tuned my box higher I could have hit higher numbers. I am a big fan of downfiring as well but there are a lot of subs out there that arent suitable for down firing aplications. And as for porting making a big difference, as a rule of thumb it does but some subs do preform better in a sealed enclosure so some model numbers along with the accompaning amp models that you are running the subs with would be a big help.

also i heard there more spl subs than sq subs and memphis recemmends that its ported at 40hz. Is that to high? im looking for some deep low bass.

it says on my specs that the vas is 1.86 and the fs Hz is 33hz and the xmech is .352 does this sound correct it says its 65percent saggy and shouldnt be down fired.

...and xmax is in millimeters, which in your case would be 9.  If your numbers for that calculator are 53 liters VAS, 33 Hz Fs, 9 mm Xmax, and it's a 12" sub, the percentage is 3%, which is okay for downfiring.  Copy and keep this unit converter. ------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
