Thank you to Bullet Tooth for answering my last question.
Next one.... after spending the day wiring my fosgate 301s, was presented with the not-so daunting task of hooking up a line converter to my stock stereo. Through trial and error.... okay... error and error.... I managed to locate the wires that ran to the stock amplifier on the back of the stereo. woo hoo, right? wrong. connect converter... stock amp signal go bye-bye. so I used a few of the few useful morsels I collected at Heald Institute (not a damned word) and ascertained that the connection was already coming in at a line level and connecting the converter was dropping the impedance so low that the amp was reading it as a short.
question: Does anybody know whether the other speaker connections on the back of the stock radio are line level or speaker level? I'd really love to know this before I pull the deck again and strip wires (at least I have the color codes for them. Thank you 12votl.com).
Any ever used a resistor/cap setup to raise the impedance to get your match on?
Any takers?

Damn, that looks a lot like DYohn's response to the Navigator question yesterday https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=55346&PN=1
Connect the aftermarket LOC to the front left and right OEM speaker wires. If you have a good LOC which has gain adjustment, it will work without having to "dummy" up the impedance load of the OEM speakers.

okay. so I talked to the guy at the local install bay. Apparently, all of the outputs on the factory unit are pre-amp. wtf? so technically, with some solder and wire I could make my own rca females, right?

I would think so. You certainly couldn't hurt anything by trying it. Give it a shot and let us know how it turns out.

I for one would love to know if this works! I did not even think of trying that!
In theory, it should work. I'll try it as soon as I can get a local bay to pop the head unit (since I don't have the ford pull tool). I'll be sure to let you guys know what happens.
