I drive a 2001 Civic and have upgraded my alternator and two of the "Big Three" wires. Using 1/0 gauge wire, the battery/chassis and alternator/battery cables were replaced. The shop did not upgrade the chassis/engine wire; the mechanic said it wasn't necessary as the housing for the alternator was connected to the engine block.

Is there a potential for problems if this wire isn't replaced as well? Could it create problems for the alternator, battery or components? I'm of the belief that he didn't upgrade the chassis/engine wire because it was difficult to access.

It should be fine. The chassis/engine wire is mostly a performance factor. If replaced, you will probably get a better result in the end, in terms of how your car operates, or the equipment you're running. it will not damage anything however
