The older JBL amps are really great and very powerful. I have a BP 600.1 and its a very powerful and dependable amp. The newer GTO amps have more options and are also good amps as far as I know. Although they may be more expensive.

My BP1200.1 is toasting increasingly upper scale subs, and I LOVE it.  Crisp and clear, and with the right speakers, i hope it will suck the air out of my chest.

i have a older Jbl 150.1.. its so small and it pounds out good! the newer ones are nicer but i'm not to sure on the dependance, but jbl is one of the best, you can't go wrong...

friend of mine who works for harman told me that the GTO amps are pretty much the same thing as the old BP's...with cosmetic changes and not much else...very little internal changes....i've had a 80.4, 600.1, 1200.1, and now have a 2200.1 and i've loved all of them

so my answer to your question would be yes...i do think they are as good...now all you have to do is decide if newer is worth more money...
