Years ago I saw an install where a 6" wire of smaller guage was attached to the chassis grounding point for the amps, then grounded to the chassis 2" away.   The installer said this ground loop eliminated alternator noise.

Was he jerkin' my Gerkin?

I don't see how that would "eliminate" alternator noise, but I could be wrong.  I would just make sure that you have all you amps ground to the same point

I can't say for sure without seeing exactly what was done, but from what you wrote I'd bet yer gerkin was jerked.

A ground loop is caused when the amp is seeking ground some where other then the ground wire. A corroded ground connection could cause the amp to seek ground thru the RCAs or where the amp is mounted. A better way to insolate the amp is to put plastic washers between the amp and the mounting point. What this guy was doing would allmost enhance the chance of a ground loop! Consider thy gerkin offially jerked.
