2000 Celica, Speaker Installation?

So, i'm installing my friends new MB Quart Coaxials into his 2000 Celica GT, and lo and behold the car has a component set in it.  Not a nice one, but a component set all the same.  The three different speaker leads are all filtered into midbass, mids, and treble and i cannot find the filters.   I would like to run an unfiltered input to the speakers so the tweets and the mids parts of the coaxials can work.  Do I have to run another wire from the deck to each of the speakers, or is there a way to get a pure sugnal without all that effort?

You may be better off just running new wires.  Are you putting in an aftermarket deck too or not?  If not, you may find that the factory output (from deck or amp) is sending the crossed over signal. 

ya i'm going to end up doing that because in a few weeks i'm installing some amps and his new deck so he can live w/o his mids installed for now.  Thanks

I have a 2000 Celica GTS with premium audio.  My install was a big pain.  From your post above i'm guessing he has premium audio installed so up front there is a 3-way component set.  There should be an amplifier up front behind the passenger-side kick panel.  This is probably where the signal is getting crossed over.  Best bet would probably get a new HU and run new wires.  If you need any more help I can probably point you in the right direction for a Celica.

Hey MikeDog - I just bought a ne HU for my Celica GTS, and I had some questions on how you bypassed the amp.

Er, I forgot to ask the questions... like how do you do it?

I installed new components and then amped them so I just ran new wires instead of using the factory amp.  I know you can splice in after the amp if you want to use the factory wiring to the speakers so you don't have to run new wire.  That is what I would suggest if you are just installing a new HU but keeping stock speakers.  You might be able to find a amp bypass kit to use so you don't have to clip any wiring, not sure about that though, check online, Best Buy and the sorts.  Your factory amp is on the passenger side behind the kick panel just in case you didn't know.  Good luck, hope that helps.

It looks like I may be hard-wiring the HU into my car - for some reason my Celica GTS is using a 20 pin harness vs. a regular Toyota 15 pin harness. I ran around town all day yesterday seeing if anyone had a Toyota 20 pin harness to no avail (this is after Best Buy sold me two wrong harnesses).

I had one other questions - I bought a Panasonic MXE CQ-C7401U, and the internal amplifier puts out 17w RMS/50w Peak. Do you think that this is enough to power the stock speakers? A salesguy at a local Car Stereo Specialty Store (Custom Sounds) told me that since the front speakers use three way components, I'll more than likely burn out my HU's amplifier trying to push it.

I had to hardwire my HU also because I couldn't find a harness either.  I only used 3 wires - remote, +12v, and ground.  As for powering those speakers with internal amp, I am not a professional installer, I just have experience ripping my own car (and some friends cars) apart so I would believe him.  Maybe someone else on the forum could assist you with this.

I did find an adapter for an Amplifier Integration kit from Scosch, the Scosche TA-03 Wiring Harness that uses the funky 20 Pin harness. However, it uses your HU's pre-amp front/rear pre-outs. A big problem that will occur is that depending on your HU, the signal's voltage needs to be cut from Higher voltage (in my example, 5v) to about Toyota's line-level in, which is 0.5v. Kinda sucks, but with a little bit of work and some resistors from Radioshack, you can reduce the pre-amp out of your HU down close to 0.5v.
