I have an Infinity Perfect 12 single voice coil 4 ohm sub. I have an MTX 421 amp that will be powering it at 220 watts RMS. I want SQ primarily, but also want to make sure I have enough thump when I feel like it. I know this sub is very good for SQ and most recommendations are to put it in a sealed enclosure, but Infinity specs say it can be in a ported enclosure as well with about .25 cubic feet more volume in the enclosure. What would you guys do? Run this sealed or ported? Will I give up a lot of SQ if I go ported?

It will mostly depend on the design of the port. I personaly (if going the ported route) would put this sub into a slot ported enclosure and would follow Infinitiy's recomendations. If it is set-up right, you should be able to get a little more thump and still retain decent SQ from that sub. Chris ------------- Alpine CDA-9833 HU

I will be building the box, and I am not sure how to build a slot ported design. I would go with the sealed box, but I am concerned I will need more power than I have to run it. ------------- 2004 BMW 325ci.

I use a Kappa Perfect 12 in a 1.2 cuft sealed enclosure. I like it, for what that's worth.  ------------- Support the12volt.com

Look, run it in a 1 cubic ft SEALED enclosure. It will have PLENTY of "Bump" with 250 watts. I was running 100RMS to mine a while back in that same box and it still shook my mirrors.

hats very good advice. My friend is running a 12.1 in a sealed enclosure but is giving it 500 watts and it is way loud. So, I would think that giving it 220watts should be pleanty loud and it will have great SQ at the same time. Give us an update when you finish the job, let us know how it worked out. Thanks for the advice guys, I will go with the 1 cubic foot sealed enclosure. I began construction on the box tonight and should be finished tomorrow. The MTX amp gets here Saturday, so I should be up and running then. It's rated at 210 watts rms at 4 ohms, but MTX underrates their amps from what I hear, so I'm hoping to get at least 220 to the sub. I have also already ran 4 guage power cable, so I should get all the current the amp needs without any restriction. The comments I hear here (from very respected contributors) have really given me confidence that it will be a great sounding setup. I run a few Perfect 12's in sealed 1 ft^3 enclosure each and I am very very happy with their sound. I have had quite a few setups I must say that these speakers really impressed me for the money that I paid for them. I would recommend building the sealed box first and see if you like it. The materials shouldn't be too much. If you find out you want more output from the same amp, then look into the ported box. Again, a sheet of MDF is only 20 bucks. If you plan it right, you can probably build both boxes out of the same sheet of wood and see what you like better though.

You won't be dissapointed. And I would be suprised if that amp ACTUALLY put out about 250-275.

ive owned 2 sets of infinty perfects 12.1 d's they were great i currently am on my second set of infinty kappa peffect vq's thier well worth the extra 100 bucks a sub price differnce thier in a sealed box and thump like hell with a memphis amp
