I am looking for an amp for a single 12" sub that puts out 500 watts rms in bridged mode and can handle a 2ohm load. Any suggestions on some good stuff?

I have a rockford power series 551s that puts out 550watts rms in brided mode, but only at 4ohms. I need this output at 2 ohms. I'm willing to trade this amp if anyone has anything for it.

I'm not familar with ur amp or sub but couldn't you either
1)Wire you sub in series and then to your amp? or
2)Wire one VC to each channel?

Wouldn't that work and be easier than getting a new amp?

The sub is a Treo SSi 12" DVC 4x4ohm. If I wire it in series and then bridge it on the amp, the amp will see a 2ohm load. This is no good, because the amp is only stable at 4ohms when bridged.

If I run one coil to each channel, the sound will be less than great because running a stereo signal through a DVC sub will produce some distortion (or so i am led to believe), plus the amp only puts out 140watts rms per channel at 4 ohms, so it will only be getting 280wats to the sub instead of 500watts that is required.

I guess hooking it up like this would be a temporary setup, but Id like to get it running at full power.

woops..i meant the sub is a Treo DVC 2x4ohms, not 4x4ohms... sorry for the confusion.

I have an amp that I would sell you that does 500x1 @ 2 ohms.

PPI PCX-1250
500x1 @ 2 ohms
250x1 @ 4 ohms

danieljaluise:

I believe you are incorrect.

If you wire a 2x4Ohm DVC sub in series, your sub will be wired at 8-ohms. Attaching that to your amp will produce a 4-ohm load on each channel with a summed stereo signal. As you say however, you will only get a total of 280 watts.

Perhaps someone can clear up the amp question?

Hey paul, I'm thinking about taking you up on that offer because new or used, I'm sure it is in good condition because you sound like you know what you're doing. It'd have to be around $150 though. Let me know what you can do.

Hey daniel,

Thanks for the compliment man. The amp is in pretty good condition. The only thing wrong with it is the Low pass filter does not work on it, which I'm in the process of trying to fix. If you have a crossover in your HU, then it's a non-issue though.

I would be willing to trade for your Fosgate though. Hit me up with a PM if interested.

Paul
