I have installed a couple of amps before but i cant get this one right... everytime i hook it up the protect light lights up.. the power light never comes on... i kno it isnt broken because i went to the place and got new ones twice... can anyone help? thx

Disconnect the all the audio inputs and outputs. Then plug each one in individually until the amp goes into protection mode. When it goes into protection mode then you have found what is causing the problem and trace it from their.

What kinda amp is it?  sounds like a JBL....do what bberman said...sounds like a short somewhere..if you notice it on the output side..test the subs...one might be blown...

Are you hooking it up to multiple subs??  Sometimes you will end up with 1 sub that has it's polarity switched.  I had a JL that was switched, then after a month or so everything got funky, it had switched polarity somehow(I'm clueless on why.....)

also check for the elusive bad ground...I have a alpine 1507 that is so picky about grounds

check for voltage and abnormal resistance in the rca's and ground
