Hi there, I want to know what is the problem that cause an Amplifier to collapse? Maybe the prob is that it's not getting the sufficient Amperes? so, the Altinator should be replaced? i already post a topic some weeks ago about the MTX Thunder 801D that is weak and i check it again, change all wires and all that, 0 gauge from the Bat. & 4 gauge from the DB. It help a little & they say me that i have to change my Alt. I have a Toyota Corolla 2001 y my question is what kind of Alt.(the Amperage) should i use? thanks a lot.

It was pointed out to me on this site that you take the amp fuse rating and add that to the stock alternator rating. For instance, say your stock alt. puts out 70 amps and your amp requires 60 amp you would need an alternator with 130 amps. This would put you safely in good standing. You probably wouldn't require that much since stock alternators typically produce a little more than the car requires. Also, the draw of your amp will depend on the ohm load your speakers are pulling at (2 ohm = 60amp; 4ohm = 30 amp, etc.)

Many on this site recommend Iraggi HO alternators. Also, don't forget to upgrade the "big 3". Hope this is helpful.

Bad ground with a high resistance on the return =  smelly amplifier syndrome. Read my grounding sticky at the top of the car audio forum.
