Solenoid, although I refer to them as an Isolator.

Indeed but I find that a pomagrant usually preforms the best. To be fair there are door popper solenoids as well as what you are talking about so being that your question was fairly vague I can see where the confussion came from.  I have always used isolators and never had an issue with them so I guess I subscribed to the "If it aint broke dont fix it" line of thinking

Thanks ravendarat for clearing that up. The reason I ask is because I've witnessed 1 go bad. And then I worked at a shop which only installed solenoids. That one experiance kinda haunts me and I'm looking for some emotional support for trying them again.

I never use any kind of battery isolation... I have also NEVER had even the first problem in NOT using isolation, either.

Waste of power (sure, a small amount of power), more parts to go bad, additional connections to eventually fail... Should I go on? Why bother? Do it right without the isolator, and never lose any sleep... posted_image

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

However if you use an isolator and you use the stereo for extended periods of time without having the vehicle running, you can be sure that you will be able to drive away in the end

DUDE!!! This was exactly what I wanted to talk about!!!! I soooo want to know how safe it is to not use an isolator. So I can just parallel a second battery and be safe? I know how the battery damage can happen but I plan to use 2 optimas.

Sorry, been in and out lately... Yes, just parallel the batteries, no isolation at all. Make certain the batteries are close to the same age as one another, and you must make certain they are identical batteries, capacity-wise...
