Got a quick question for you gurus. I have an 05 F150 SCab that i am getting ready to build a box for a 10" woofer to fit under the rear seat. Ive looked a premade boxes for this truck, and they all fire the woofer into the floor. Is there any diffrerence if you fire the woofer up into the bottom of the seat? Or is firing it into the floor better? (And i am talking about better sound). Firing it up gives me better clearence and mounting depth than firing it down because the floor is not flat.

you might want to build a platform to make that ground all flat. Bass is nondirectional. It will sound about the same which ever way you fire it. I have heard both setups and would down fire them. When they were upfired it felt like there was only bass in the back.

Yes, lower frequencies are nondirectional, so the position of the sub makes no difference in sound.

Thanks for the input fellas. I was concerned that if i fired them into the bottom of the seat, the sound may get "muffled" from the cushioning in the seat.

Here is a place to START when trying to answer that question. There is ALWAYS going to be some sag when a woofer is not firing from a vertical position. This will also affect the overall power handling of the woofer - MECHANICAL power handling...

...and it COULD cause some non-linearities in the sound, as one way there will be more "spring" action than the other, so the sound CAN be affected.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
