My girlfriend has a 1997 Dodge Intrepid and she bought a cheap CD player to put in it and I put it in, well when I went to go get a wiring harness so I dont have to cut wires,  but I would have to order one though the manifacturer. So I decided to install it myself by cutting the wires and wiring everything up my self. Well everything works, except her dash does not light up. And I'm not sure what to do! can someone help me please?

fuses are fine, that wire needs to be hooked up to something but I'm not sure what

Well the stereo could possibly have an Dimmer wire, most likely orange that you might have hooked up to one of the wires in the harness I personally have never worked with any of the older chrysler stuff So i dont know what color wire that would be. But I would check there first? Anyone else feel free to chime in here posted_image

You mean to say wall mart, and all there stereo shops in your town didn't have a very common wire harness? Thats awkward.  Or did you go to the dealership where they don't carry that kinda thing?

I looked at a few audio shops around here, along with best buy and wal-mart and radio shack, they all said I had to order the harness from the manifacturer

Ya i dont know what you have available in your area but any best buy or circuit city should have had that harness.... Isnt normally a big deal, but from what it sounds like it could have been here.

alright... Im not familiar with chryslers like I said, i dont know what else is included in that harness other than the standard powers, ground, and speaker leads... there might be something im missing? Fuses are good... I honestly dont know, is it possible the headlight switch got disconnected somehow when you took the dash piece off? or did you take it off? Just thinking of everything I've done stupid.

just a thought were did you ground the hu? there is no ground in the harness. there is a strap on the back of the radio with a10mm bolt that is how the radio is grounded.

That factory groung on the back of the deck should NOT have any affect on the dash lights...............

Even with an aftermarket deck....

My thoughts exactly, if he was having a ground problem on the new deck then it wouldnt be working... its way too late for me to be thinking properly.

If you have dash light problems after installing the aftermarket deck, chances are you tapped into the illumination or dimmer wire by mistake and burned out a fuse or the BCM that controls the dash lights. If your parking lights still work but your dash lights do not, chances are you damaged the BCM because they are on the same circuit that turns them on at the switch, but are separately controlled by the BCM.

I fixed it,  it was a simple little mistake were I used the immluitation wire with the neg. CD wire, but I was suppose to use that big neg. wire that bolted onto the CD player, I'm a pontiac guy, they dont have thoes stupid bolts on there lol, so I just changed a few wires and she works great! thanks guys! Now my girlfriend is happy!

I had a feeling it would be that illumination wire from the beginning. That wire had me so confused for he longest time when I installed my first stereo.... Glad you found the problem
