Subject: Infinity sub question

I was doing some shopping and came across these subs: Infinity 12" Subwoofer (1242W) Peak power handling (watts) 1000 RMS power handling 300
does anyone have any pros/cons about these subs? If the subs are decent could my Kenwood KAC-7201 handle them? 800 watt peak 150 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohm 230 watts x 2 at 2 ohms 460 watts RMS x 1 bridged output at 4 ohms variable low-pass crossover (50-200 Hz at 18 dB per octave) selectable high-pass crossover (150 Hz at 12 dB per octave) selectable bass boost (12 dB at 90 Hz)

They're good subs depending on the music you listen to. As for your amp, it should be fine to run one of them. If you're going with 2 get a mono amp. The subs are a bit power hungry and they sound better with more power. We ran 8 of them off of 2 mtx 942's and they sounded ok i guess. They just aren't very clean for hip hop music at all.

I beleve that sub is a 4 ohm DVC, meaning your options a 2 ohms and 8 ohms. Your amp is a 2 channell that is only stable for 4 ohms up bridged, so yes, it will work, but not safely. You will either hit the protection is you wire it for two ohms, or at 8 ohms, you will get half the rated power for 4 ohms bridged.
Now, if you 2 subs, that's a different story alltogether.

The Infinity's would be great. FWIW I run a Kappa Perfect and love it for rock/rap/country/classical/ whatever. Those 2 References would be great.

Not sure what you are looking to spend, but I would get Kappa Perfect over those reference subs ANY day. I picked my 12" Perfect up for 130 bucks shipped and it is one of the best subs out there. I think you will find the same recommendation among anyone else who has owned one. ------------- 2004 BMW 325ci.

i've installed alot of infinity stuff, and the kappa perfect is a really good sub. never had a problem with any of them in my shop.now if that is a bit out of your price range you should be fine with the reference subs . good luck man. ------------- mark brasil, alpine 9811, ppi 6600 6ch amp, planet audio comp. set(2), custom built slot portbox,3-4yr old audiobahn alum q 10",ppi 1000 watt amp, 04 scion xa

That's a strong statement about Infinity's quality. The #1 reason why I run Perfect's.

I have a kappa perfect 10.1d dual 4 ohm, in a .6 cu ft box as recommended by infinity, and I love the sound quality, but am a little dissapointed in the level of output. It just dosen't get very loud before it bottoms out. I have a alpine mrd m605 amp running it right now, which is a little big. I did have an old rf punch 100x2 on it and it hit harder in the low range 20-40hz but it would start clipping at high volumes. I have no way of running line level inputs to it (I have a mazda 6, and there is no dash kit available for aftermarket hu) so that may be part of the problem, but previously I had the infinity in an 01 4-runner and it was about the same with a good line input. Is the box too small, or do i need a vented??????? Anyway I love the sub, for sq its great, very low response, and I would recommend it . i got mine for around 110 shipped with warranty.

The infinity specs are conservative....I would increase the volume of your box. Model it up in WinISD or have someone on the forum do it...you would be surprised. I have experienced the same thing with my Perfect 12 SVC....I am only putting 200 watts to it, and I have it in the Infinity recommended 1 cubic foot box, and it does sound great, but it hasn't been all that loud (see some previous posts of mine on the subject). I am building a ported box to experiment with the sound. It isn't the sub though, it needs a little more power and a little more volume and I think it will be loud AND sound great like it does now. ------------- 2004 BMW 325ci.

Thanks, let me know how the box affects it, I don't have any money for a new box as of now, due to basement remodeling, but will in the near future. So are you suggesting a ported or vented box, or just a bigger sealed?
