i installed a new deck in a 2000 VW vr6 gti. the radio works fine ,but after the install the check engine light came on. now, ive heard of something called a "k" wire somewhere behind the radio that can cause this problem, if this is true how can i fix this problem? if not, is there anything else that i can do to correct this problem? thanks in advance.

what you might find is you might have to take it to the service sept of your local VW dealership and have them have reset the check engine light .. they should also be able to tell you what it was that triggered it .. i can be heaps of things some times its the SRS ( air bag light ) not the engine light .

thats the only thing i can think of appart from disconnecting the battery (car) and leaving it for a few hours but this wont always do it and i reccomend the 1st idea

the K wire i believe was what people were talking about cutting so you accidently didnt hook a wire to it when wiring up an aftermarket deck because there have been issues of code scanners not communicating with the ecm durring emmisions test causing the car to fail for that reason. I'd try disconnecting the radio and disconnecting the neg batt cable for a few mins. Otherwise you have to go to the dealer for a reset.
