I'm undecided as to how I'm going to wire up my system. I've inherited some stuff with the car and have some very old stuff laying around to use. Here's what I have:

Headunit    Kenwood KDC-5028

Amps       (1)Kenwood KAC-823
           (1)Rockford 2.3
           (1)Rockford Punch 60IX
           (1)Orion 280gx

Speakers   (1)Orion XTR DVC 12"
           (2)Infinity 62i
           (2)Infinity 65cs

I want decent sound with some thump but as little current draw as possible - if I can avoid using external amps I'd like to. The Rockford amps are a little weak and are comparable to the radio's output so I'm wondering if I should just power the rear deck speakers off the radio, use one preout for the front speakers to be driven by the Orion 280gx, and then use the other preout for the SW that will be driven by the Kenwood 823 bridged into 2ohms. If I understand how to use these products right, the above setup will still give me freq cutoff controls for all the speakers. I can post specs if needed. Is this a good idea? Suggestions please and I'm sorry again for the long read.

Your plan sound like a good approach with this gear.  Sell the two Rockford amps on Fleabay.  The Kenwood is a very nice amp from the days when Kenwood made excellent gear, however I don't think it will handle a 2-ohm load when bridged so you may have to use the sub wired at 8-ohms.  I'd put the Kappa 65cs in the front and the 62i's in the rear.

Personally, I'd scrap the Kenwood and Rockford amps, and use the Orion. I always liked the Orion gx stuff... Not an HCCA amp, by ANY means, but good amps - especially for the money.

BTW, the deck will NEVER, EVER put out even CLOSE to what even the smallest, oldest amp you have will do... It can't under any circumstances put out more than about 10 to 12 watts of real-world power, no matter WHAT the front panel says...

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Thanks everyone for the replies. I will tackle this next month probably. And yes, some of this stuff is very, very old.
