any of the full time pros like myself on this forum know that essentially what we do on a daily basis is market knowledge.....

so here's a proposal..... if you get good, helpful, accurate advice from someone on here that really simplifies what you are trying to do..... you should donate a buck.... if the advice is incorrect or erroneous, the advice giver should have to donate a buck......

any thoughts??

Um, I"m thinking no on this one.

It's a good idea, but that kind of defeats the purpose of internet forums. Which is to have the FREE exchange of information

I just donated some money, now you want more, why don't you just give out your home adress so I can mail it to you!posted_image

Good idea, just don't think people will follow through on something like this, or they will argue that the info wasn't that great.

YEah, but do you really think people will come here for info if it's kind of expected that they'll pay for it?

I personally would go check out a book at the library to get the info before paying someone else for the same info.

Note that I share ALL of the information that I have acquired over the years for FREE. I could easily open up a shop and charge an arm and a leg for simple advise, but I don't. There's no reason to. There are so many other places that people can get the info for FREE!

Lets please keep it that way. I personally think that it's a little selfish to be even asking for money. If that's the case, then why did you even give advise in the first place?

it's only a donation you still have to pay for a library card .

I don't have to pay for a library card. Well at least not directly. Of course taxes pay for that stuff...

Don't listen to poorman, all he does is inspire arguements. Since he is so poor I'll kick in 10 for him and 10 from me. And since I donated 10 for you, stay out of this thread and any other threads like this from now on.

Well said, auex.  And the great thing about Paypal is that you can donate just one buck and it costs you no more than one buck.  I donated again a few weeks ago (my wife's name if you're looking) and it was just for the sake of helping to keep one of the internet's great forum sites alive and kicking.  It was only twenty bucks but it was tip money and so I thought  "If I can get a tip, I can GIVE a tip".  That came not long after I read that  the12volt had to consistently kick in on the monthly web expenses to keep this site going.  It's not enough to contribute with dialogue (and a poster with a question contributes just as highly as a poster with a response), we have to continually feed this forum with ideas like kgerry did in this thread.  The consistent thing about this forum's readership is that it is constantly changing.

I kick in $10.00 if Auex will drop his Ipod bashing for a week. Not that I care, but I think it will kill him to do it.

oops. sorry. I didn't realize that K was talking about donating to the12volt. I thought he meant to the individual person that provides the information.

Just wondering: Does the12volt want/need more sponsors?

I'm all in favor of sponsors, but keep the pop-ups OUT! OK? (This includes pop-UNDERS!!!)

I also donated my $10.00 - Twice. It was worth it.

I'm in favor of stickying this subject for awhile.  I'd like to see the results.  There are one or two info threads that could be replaced on the first page...

i hope y'all realized i was joking....  i would never refer to myself as a "pro"....unless we are talking beer consumption....the only people i figured would have a problem with this whole premise were the "advice givers".... you know, the " i've installed lots of stuff for my sisters neighbours cousins uncle "

could you imagine if everytime you gave an uneducated opinion it cost you a buck??    forums like this wouldnt even need advertisers.....

actually i expected far more outrage from the "know it alls".....lol              hey it was 5:30 on a Friday afternoon and after filtering thru some of the silly responses i had read i thought...hhhmmm "what if"

The "silly responses" as you so politely put it always crank up this time of year all across the web.  School's out, you know.

being an "old geezer" i dont follow the school trends.... it was just one of those "if i had a buck for every dumb answer" things.... dont get me wrong... i encourage everyone the forum has helped to chip in a buck if they can.....

but could you imagine if everytime someone posted an unsubstantiated, uninformed opinion a dollar was donated to the forum??   wow!!!

kgerry, while I appreciate your intent by creating this topic, I don't want any member to feel obligated to make a donation because of a discussion on the topic or to think that we are hustling donations. If anyone does make a donation, they should do so only because they found this site to be of some value and for no other reason.

Poormanq45 wrote:

My intention has always been to provide the information we share on this site free of charge and we will continue to provide it free of charge.

No, there will never be any pop-up or pop-under ads.

With the sponsors and new ads we now have in place along with the donations we receive, I'm happy to say this site should begin covering it's monthly operating expenses by the end of this month and eventually allow me to make improvements and add more features.

Thanks for all the financial support you and many others have given and for the valuable information you've shared in these forums. Without many of you, this site wouldn't be the same ...Cheers!

forbidden, you swim in money.  That's not hardly a fair proposition!  (...you swim in money because the water is always ICE!...)

kgerry, you snookered me on this one.  But I still think it's a good fund-raiser project.  Bono is doing it for the starving children in Africa, you know.
