speaker set up ?

Hello, I will be installing my system this weekend and need some help. I have a Kenwood Excelon Kfc-x650D 5cha amp that will be used for my mids & highs. The speakers I want to hook up to this amp are Kenwood Excelon Kac-xr701 7"rear, Kac-xr601 6.5" front, and Kac-xt15ie tweeters. I ran all new speaker wire through out my truck. So what is the best way to set up this combo? I am not using any deck power at this time and my head unit is a Kenwood Excelon Kdc-x889. Please any help is GREATLY apprieciated.:D  Thanks, uniball

You're question is very open-ended about information needed, but you seem to know why you selected the components you listed.  Is it very basic install help you want or are you looking for crossover points or what?  And do you have a sub, too?  And what Kenwood model is that?

Sorry bout that. I have a JL Audio 12w6v2 that I will be hooking up to my 2cha Kenwood Excelon Kfc-x520. I am basically wondering if I should tap in power for the tweeters from the front door speakers or if I should run the tweeters from the deck? Thanks again, uniball

I just tried to get info from the Kenwood site but there are some parts of it that aren't working.  The tweeters came up, though, and don't they come with crossovers?  The fronts and the tweeters should be separated with a crossover and  run off the same two channels of the amp.  The crossover will allow them to maintain their impedance.  So, yeah, run the front door speaker wires to the crossovers and then split to the tweeters and 6.5's.  You shouldn't have any need to run deck power to anything.  And when you said "5cha amp" I thought the fifth channel would be used for the sub.

Stevdart, Thanks for your speedy reply! The tweeters I got do come w/ a crossover. I was going to try and run everything from the one 5cha amp until I bought the 12w6v2 so I went and bought a 2cha amp to pump up the power! Thanks again for your help!  uniball

Your JL sub is a dual 4 ohm.  Your best result (read:  most power) would be to use a mono amp (you can parallel wire the coils to 2 ohms).  If you use the amp you have purchased, you'll have to wire the sub's coils in series to bridge to the amp at an 8 ohm bridged load....which is the same output as the amp's 2X 4 ohm rating.

Compare the 5 channel amp's 1 x 2 ohm rating to the two channel amp's 2 X 4 ohm rating...if the difference is small you'll be better off using the 5th mono channel on the amp and leaving the extra two channel amp out of the picture.  You'll save extra power consumption.  But if the difference is apparent, and the car's electrical system can handle the amperage pull...you'll have the best SQ using the separate two channel amp.

WOW thanks for the extra input! You are the man! What would be the best way to tap power off the front speaker for my tweeter set up! I already have the 6.5" speakers installed and the wires ran to them. How/where would be the best way to tap into them? Thanks again!

The speaker wires will go directly to the crossover, then the xover will have outputs on it to feed the mid and tweeter.  Position the xover so that it's not inside the door (protect it from moisture) and accessible, perhaps under the dash.  I'm a big fan of reading and understanding the owner's manuals that come with components...and I don't have yours to look at....but I would guess the xover will feed 4 kHz and up to the tweeter and everything lower to the 6.5.  You will use the high pass filter on the amp and send from 80 Hz up to the fronts (to the crossover).  Use a high pass for the rears, too, at the same xover point and run them off another two channels.  The subwoofer will take care of 80 Hz and below and will use the low pass filter on the amp.
