I am designing a box to match the same concept as my friend who is a current installer. Myself being a former installer. But i keep on getting people arguing with me about sound cancellatoin in my design. SO i though i would take it to people who might know more about this.

the design of the box is as follow

Now everyone is saying that if the subs fire at each other, i get cancellation... but installation memory, and present knowlege from my friend states that if the subs fired with each other (one wired backwards) then cancellation would be present.

anyone have a definitive answer to this problem?

It'll work. Just make certain your wiring is the SAME, not reversed. You want both of them to be producing positive pressure at the same time. This means they need to be moving in/out WITH each other, thus, in phase. There is no problem doing it this way.

ACtually there WILL be a slight cancellation. Not muhc, but it will occur. This will be caused by the fact that there IS a distance between the two subs. This will cause a slight phase shift. Probably in the area of 5~15degrees.

For cancelation to NOT occur the driver faces would have to be coupled directly together.

Either way, it's a good looking design. You probably won't be able to notice the slight cancellation

There is no evidence in physics that long waves (bass waves) will cancel each other out in a small atomosphere such as a car intereior. Steve Brown at Alpine has stated this. The only thing you might experience is coupling, but coupling can change with the location of the listener in the vehicle. I think the design looks like a good one. And remember that a lot of knowledge can be gained through trial and error. Best of luck.

This experiment right here Aiming Woofer has proven otherwise
