hello I know this might be simple but I just want to check with you guys
I Have 2 hollywood audio 12inch subs rated at 800watts rms each and 2000 watts peak . right now im running them both on one kennwood 810d 1600watt amp its sounds ok but I want it to hit harder and I know it can because when I turn up the gain on the amp it does but the amp over heats because im running them in 1 ohm. I have another 810d amp and want to run one on each speaker but I dont want to blow them. so I came up with 2 things to do but want to check with you guys first.
1. turn the gain down on the amps. might work but what if my source level changes when changeing cds.
2.Wire the speakers to each amp with a higher ohm to lower the amps output since int the amps manual it says different ohms give different power outputs heres what the manual says
max power output 4 ohm 1600wattx1
rated power output (+b=12.0v)
4ohms 300wattsx1
2ohms 600wattsx1
rated power output (+b =14.4v)
4ohms 400wattsx1
2ohms 800watts x1
1ohm 1000watts x1
help please
well after reading the manual for the 100th time I I found out thad I have the speaker wired up for 4ohms since its a single channel amp with 4 speaker terminals 2 - 2+ even thpugh I have one speaker hooked up to each set of terminals the amps still sees it as 4 ohms.
the ohm rating of the subs are 2 ohms I belive but the sub manual shows how to wire up for 1 ohm. the subs are dual voice coil each coil is 4 ohms.
wire the 2 coils on each sub in parallel and put one sub on each amp and you will be running both amps at 2ohms with your amps rated output at 2 ohms at 14.4 volts you should get the most out of what you have

I guess im gonna have to try that the the 2 reason im gonna try that is because the amp over heats like crazy and the cuts off. last time I checked the amp temp it was 140f thats really what im trying to troubleshoot the I have done over 50 car sub and amp installs and only the kenwood amps give me this problem even my friends camaro does the same to a lesser extent I guess kenwood sucks. I thought maby it was a ground or power problem so I put in a new 140amp alt police style installed 2 alternator power cables and added another 1gauge ground to the frame since I have a dual post batt the amps are grounded to the frame also. I even installed a rotating fan in the trunk to move air around the amp.
kenwood dosnt suck the thing is that only the better amps can handle 1 ohm
