What do you guys think of Image Dynamics? I picked up one of thier   iD MAX 12D2 V.2woofer from a car forum for $150.

I've heard some good for them in the past for both SQ and SPL. So I decided to make a medium sized ported enclosure for it (which I'm builing on thursday). It will be 1.5ft^3 with a slot port tuned to 33hz.

It's going to be wired to 1 Ohm and powered with a Hifonic Brutus BX1500D (I know, not the best and a little over powering, but I will get the gains properly and probably a little conservitivly as well). It says that it puts out 1500 watts at 1 Ohm (my guess is closer to 1300 from what I hear) and 500 at 4 ohms.

My goal with this is to be able to compete in a show this august, but I also use this has my daily driver, so I may have it wired to 4 Ohm untill then.

So if anyone has any input I'd be gratefull. Thanks a lot.

As far as what I *THINK*, you don't want to know... BUT, here's what I'd *DO*: Wire the woofer for 4 ohms, use the amp in a FAR more linear power band, and get a little sound quality out of the system. As far as the show, are you entering for SPL or SQ? If SQ, LEAVE IT ALONE! If SPL, you are only going to (safely) gain about 3dB by running at 1 ohm vs the 4 ohm setting, and risk the safety of the woofer.

The amp is 500w @ 4 ohm, and the woofer will take 1000 watts, which the amp will happily make at 1 ohm, but you WILL hit the overpowering mark fairly easily. 500w to 1000w is only 3dB...

Me? I'd give the amp all the help I could, and leave it with a 4 ohm load...

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

thanks for the input, that helps a lot, and I am most definitly entering for SPL. The SQ part is just for my dailying driving. I think i'll wire 4 wires to the sub and out of the box so that I can switch when it comes time to the comp. 3db is a lot when people are only beating you by a fraction of a dB.

again thanks a lot for you imput, you may have just saved this sub ... lol

I have 4 IDMAX 12D2 V.3 in my 2000 Honda civic and the system sounds flawless.   I had to do some major dampening to get rid of the vibrations though.  I have not entered any competitions yet, but I know that my setup will put out some major SPL and it still sounds great.  I have my subs in sealed enclosures though because I would not be able to build the boxes large enough to have them ported.  Good luck at the competition.
