i've read previous posts about mounting amps under the seats. I know about the possible heat issues and am not worried about it. One option was to mount it on a board (or aluminium pipes) then mount it to the floor. but one suggestion was to place hook-type velcro strips on the base of the amp and hope it clings to the carpet. I was wondering if the velcro would hold the amp steady enough to withstand sharp and fast turns and sudden braking and stuff like that?

thanks

I've seen people have good luck using Velcro exactly like you describe it.  Just use enough of it.

i would use industrial strength, put it on a peice of 1/4 or preferably 1/2" MDF (particle would be OK too). Use contact cement to make sure velco stickly forever :D Staples if you want as well. Screw the amp to the board... this should work out just fine.

if you really worry about it shifting when turning and the stop an go. i wouldn't use velcro. with the heat of the amp and the sun. the car hold a lot of heat  and the velcro will peel away your best bet is get yourself 1/2 wide 3/16 thick aluminum flat angle cut to the length of the amp two strips. slice a  1/2 inch cut on the carpet and slide bars under the carpet use 1/4 " # 8 self tap screws to mount amp onto  bar under the carpet

It depends on the carpet type, velcro worked to hold my amp down in my cavalier, but not in my crown vic. Also the bottom of some amps do not make contact with the carpet except on the very edge, so it might depend on the amp to.

just screw it down . make sure you check for wiring harnesses under the carpet first and also brake and fuel lines underneath the car !

then screw it  in

some cars are better left unscrewed.

exposed screws=RUST (or holes to fill when removed)

on a different note, i have already planned to get the Alpine SPS-171A 16cm components for my fronts. I'm a student with a small budget and i reckon this set is quite a bang for your buck. anyone had experience with these?
the problem is routing proper speaker wires through the rubber hose into the door. I hear that professional installers have proper tools to route the cable through those tubes. I was wondering if i could find it at, say, a hardware store. what are they called? how do they look like? a magazine adviced me not to use the coat hanger as it might wreck some wires in the tubing. one more thing is how do i get access to the wire from inside the car once its run from the door?
Is there a proper technique to do this?
My previous install wasn't one that stresses tidyness but i would like to try to get it as hidden as possible this time.

my other option was to just hook the speaker wires from the amp.. to the current wires now behind the H/U and just run wires from the lugs in the doors for the tweeters (going to be mounted on that panel just inside the side mirrors)

Thanks

One thing that is easy to find at a dollar store is a "made in China" drain snake, supposedly sold to be used to unclog drains in the kitchen or bath sink.  It's a cheap and pitiful tool when it comes to the real proposed use for it, but for snaking wiring it works really well.  Just modify the end so that it is the same as the rest of the length (cut off the end) and tape it up with electrical tape so there are no sharp edges.  The speaker wire can be taped to it and snaked to where you want it to go.

Cost:  one dollar.

one more option i'm considering is just having an installer install the speakers.. that way i can be assured a good job. and i dont have to figure out how to mount my crossovers.. just afraid of the installation costs.
gotta check out some of the local shops here
