I am gonna get an Image Dynamics idmax 12 v.3 dual 2 ohm voice coil. I am making the box now to get ready for the sub. The box is gonna be 16 inches tall, 30 inches long, and 13 inches deep. The face is gonna be doubled. using 3/4 mdf. Its gonna be a ported enclosure. So the question i have for you guys is . What diametter round port should i buy and how long should it be? also, where should i put the port? thanks

I would go with a 2 inch diameter round port.  about 4 3/4 inches long.  This will tune it 34 hz.  Your enclosure is a hair small compared to factory recommendation so 34 hz with your enclosure will keep it comparable to factory recommedations.  I would place the port on the front with your woofer.  Place it in the bottom corner maybe.  It is up to you.  Hope this helped.  Good Luck!

ok first thing dont put a round port in, makes it look cheap, make a slot ported box. u usually use a 4inch dia port so to work out the area of this u need to multiply 4 by pie (3.14) this gets you 12.56. so now we know the length u want the port to be. so say ur port was to be 6 inches in length, u would divide the number 12.56 or 12 by 6 and u wud get 2 and so this is the 2D dimensioons of ur port.

now from ur box size which is 2.75cubic feet and the 12volt calc, the lenght of the port  at 32hz cums to around 9 inches. so ur port will hav to be 9 by 6 by 2.

If u dont want to do this then remember the 12.56 still equals a 4inch diameter circle so ur port wud have to be 9 inches in length if a round port. but i wud personally go with a slotted port.

now positioning is totally of ur choice. just make sure the port has around 1-2 inches of clearence at the end inside the box and u will be fine. the positioning needs to be thought out because remeber u might get stuff blockjing the airways so keep the port well out of the way of any obstacles. jus put it at the front, best place in my books.

ur enclosure size is not small at all, infact its a tad too big in terms of factory recommendations. its fine, jus tune it up to around 32 hz and ull hit sum low tones. rememba get a 33hz test tone and ull be impressing all da ladies, in a different and WET way

So, if i were to make a slot port box. can someone make me a overhead of how the box should look and explain the dimensions of the port?

k go to this page to get an idea of wat  a slot port looks like https://www.audiooutfitter.com/images/items/abb121n.jpg.

k the measurements i gave you were 6 by 2 by 9. so dat means the front square section dat u can see shud be 6 inches tall and 2 inches wide or it cud even be 12 inches and 1 inch wide. to work out da tallness of ur slot jus divide da required tallnes by 12 so if u wanted a 6 inch tall port u wud divide 12 by 6 and get 2..........and so on.

the extra 9 inch dimension means dat da port shud reach 9 inches from surface into the box. so ur box will be a 13 inch deep box and da port will reach 9 inches into da box

the dimensions of the port are interior dimensions. so if u add da mdf, from one side to another the port will make 2 inch plus 0.75 by 2= 3.5inches wide.

but dont just use a whole new port, use the sides of the box to make part of the port

look again at the link of how the port is just the front piece cut short and an extra part added along inside which forms the port

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

ok u want one dat'll be around 16inches tall. so u'll want to minus off 0.75 from each side cus of da mdf thickness and this will end u up wid 14.5inches tall. now like i said u'll want to divide 12 by 14.5 which gives you 0.8inches thickness. so the internal dimensions of the front of ur port will be 14.5 by 0.8 inches. i've got summit better, now remember this was in terms of a 4 inch diameter port so if we up da diameter to 5inches and pie this we'll get 15.7.

now 15.7 divided by the height which is 14.5 comes to 1.08 inches. the length of the port has also become enlarged so the new dimensions are 14.5inches tall, 1.08 inches wide and 15inches deep.

now we have hit a slight problem, ur box is only 13inches deep and we require 15 inches. so from this we carry the port on to the end of the box. remember this ur port will be 1.08 inches wide, so beofre ur port reaches a dead end at the end of ur 13inch deep box we need to make a bend(the side of the port needs to be a a parallel distance from the side of the box which in this case is 1.08 inches). now after this bend u will add the extra two inches on. i will post a diagram

i think i should stick with the first diagram you showed me. my box is gonna be 12.75 inches deep and i subtracted the 2.25 of mdf thickness because the front is gonna be doubled. should i stick with the first one

that is entirely upto u, but the building of the smaller port is much more difficult compared to the second design as thios just requires a piece that fits froim base to top. again entirely upto u
