I am trying to install a deck in my girlfriends 05 saturn ion. When i hook everything up, the sound is real low, even at full volume on the deck. I am using the saturn harness, with an alpine 9847 deck. Does this car have an amp that i have to bypass? i checked my wiring twice, and nothing is grounding out, but it still sounds like crap. thanks for the help jimmy

im thinking it probably does have a bypass or some kind of factory amp

what color was the plug? grey or blue?

becuz if so then you would have to power that cord in order for your door speakers to work if not you can re wire new wires to all the speakers which i dont think no one wants to do . ive had this problem before some guy was tryin to install a HU on a ford explorer so i checked it out and he cutt all the factory wires and everything so i couldnt u no harness so i wired it with my knowledge and then i plugged in one speaker and the left over wires i would touch and see if that was the factory amp turning on and i found it so i jus went ahead and ran it with the switched power cord and its runnin fine

non-amplified systems use a blue plug and amplified use a grey plug

if it is a grey plug, do you recommend using an amp bypass kit, or running new wires? or could i just use the amp turn on from the deck to the factory amp turn on (in the harness) and integrate it? or is there any other options? i am at work now, so i cant pull the deck out till i get home thanks for the help so far

well the last thing i would do if u couldnt do nothin else is run it to the switchpower wire from the deck not the constant thats what i think thats what i did on that one ride i installed

by running the factory amp power wire to the swtiched power wire that runs to the deck

why wouldnt you just use the remote turn on of the deck for the amp?

well it turns out, that for the 04/05 ion's, there is a new harness, the GM10B, not the 70-2002. You could use the 2002 but you will need to re-pin the wires, just an fyi for those that are doing that car
