confused about crossover

hi, im installing a MTX rt-x01a, i cant understand why it has one rca imput, one set of left and right speaker wire inputs, but two rca outputs, which should both go to the single rca input on the amp. do you think you can help me understand? thanks

It's a 2-way crossover. It splits the incoming signal into two signals, crossed over at frequency setpoints you can select, to connect two different amplifiers. ------------- Support the12volt.com

yeah, usualy one is low pass and one is high pass. So you can select a point for say an amplifier that will goto subwoofers and an amplifier that goes to tweeters (or midranges, or whatever). You can do many combinations, midbass and midrange/treble, bass and treble, bass and midrange/treble... you name it!

which speaker wires from the HU do i use to go into the crossover? the ones for the rear speakers?or do i not need them .thanks again

How are you trying to use the crossover? It will accept speaker-level inputs, but what are you trying to use it to accomplish? ------------- Support the12volt.com

sorry dyohn "he" is my friend that iam doing the install for, I' v hooked up many HU and amps, but never a crossover before, have we been misinformed to what the crossover actually does?thanks

I think you guys are looking for an equalizier, a device that allows you adjust certain frequencies, hence your statement above about adjusting the sound quality.
They sometimes look similar.

Yea, I agree, probably you want an EQ. A crossover can sometimes improve sound quality by limiting the bass in to your main speakers, keeping them from playing frequencies they have a hard time with. But it's designed to be installed and left alone. A crossover splits the audio spectrum into multiple signal paths depending on the frequency of the sound. It sends the bas to the woofers and the mids to the mids and the treble to the tweeters, putting it simply. In the case of the MTX you have, it is designed for a HU without a sub woofer pre-out so you can create one using the front or rear outputs. ------------- Support the12volt.com
