I have the following setup in a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado extended cab....

EFX 4ga wires

EFX RCAs

JVC LH810 HU

Power Acoustik 2F CAP

Kenwood KAC-X521 amp (505W rms)

Kicker solo baric L7 S8"

I listen to a lot of hard rock/rap.. and i know this is a hard question, but I'm not sure exactly what everything should be set at (gain, input sensitivity, low pass frequency, Q factor, bass setting on HU, etc).  Generally speaking, does anyone have any tips for optimal performance?

On your HU, your bass setting should be all the way down.

Low pass frequency, industry standard is around 90hz

Input sensitivity should be matched to your HU's outputs.

And do a search on this forum on setting gains, there is alot of useful information on here, and should get you the answer.

I agree with Chad7n7

Q factor is usually changed by the type and size of enclosure you are using.
