Last night I had the head unit out after cranking some music halfway for about 6 to 10 minutes, then when I took the H/U out I noticed the amp on the back of the unit was very hot, it would burn your finger if left there for very long. Is this normal?...for only working for that short of a time?

also I measured the depth of the basket the unit resides in, and the depth of the basket is 6.5 to 7 inches deep whereas the H/U is 6 to 6.25 inches deep, so there is almost no airspace for the amp to breath. Is this a major problem?

one last question...when I do get around to installing the external amp(s) will this cause the Head units amp to shut off ( no longer get hot since it is not working)

THANKS  and Happy Thanksgiving!

Some headunits play hot and are happy being hot.  If it is not shutting off I would not really worry about it.  Once you install an amp for your high end the internal amp is still on.  It may not be being used but is stiil on and will still get hot
