Velocity Motors - you indicated that you compete maily for SQ.  What brand of component speakers do you use for your front speakers?  What are your thoughts on metal dome compared to soft dome?  I personally like the sound of the metal dome tweeter in local shops, but am not sure if they will be too bright or harsh in a car.

An ideal system depends on the car you are putting it into

the car that I was thinking of is a 95 Camry. Would like to know your choice of all speakers and amps and caps and woofers and box???

If I were to do it under $1500 i would use lower line alpine headunit, diamond audion m6 speakers or the hex series, alpine 5 chanel that is weak in power but quality matters here, and lastly an alusonic 10 inch sub made by alumapro

I compete at little shows out here on the West Coast of Canada...I mostly compete in SPL in the past, but am starting to look at SQ now...I am more wondering what people on this board are running for equipment...last year my SPL system was as follows:

Clarion 9575 head unit

Audio Control Epicenter

Xtant coax's for front stage

1 Stroker 18

MMats d200hc sub amp

MTX 2300 for front stage

this year I have changed things a bit for SQ

Clarion 9575 head unit with Clarion 7500z dsp

Audio Control Epicenter

Focal PolyKevlars for front stage

2 Xtant Hex 12s

Crossfire bmf 1000d for sub amp

MTX 2300 for front stage

all the wiring and accessories have always been Monster Cable...

anybody else here from the West Coast?

mwhcai1: I used Alpine SPX 6.5" Components for the front imaging in custom built fiberglass kick panels. You can go here for the remainder of my system: https://www.velocitymotorsport.com/hot_rides/velocity_integra.html

my buddy had one of the 1001 DXs but it cooked prematurely...and it would often go to impedance protection when it shouldnt have...running a pair of dual 4 ohm Morel Renaissance subs...it would always go into impedance protection on a really hard and low note...

do you really like the way the Alpine speakers sound? I have never been a huge fan of any of their speakers, including the DDDrives...

what has been your MAX SPL score on the dash (no portwars or outlaw scores)?

The 1001 DX I am running is bridged to 1.33 ohm and has never shut down on me. SPL score has been 153.4 db from the sealed enclosure. The SPX are very crisp and accurate as far as nid end speakers are concerned. For the price these are very good speakers and with the new crossover's the speakers are by far better than the DD Drive I had previously. My next set of components will probably be the MB Quart series speakers.

have you listened to any of the Focals? the only strike against them is perhaps the titanium tweeters...but they are an awesome sounding speaker...so are the Morels, the Dyns, and the Rainbows...and have you heard of a Canadian company called AVI? they are about a half hour drive from me and they have phenomenal sounding speakers...perhaps the best sounding speakers these poor ears have ever heard...the set I am talking about is called the Tri-Star 3 ways, of the BSM line...if you can listen somewhere, I would highly reccomend it...

not saying that the QSDs are bad speakers either, but so often I hear people refer to one brand as being the best by far...I always like to provide a variety of options, because there is a lot of personal preference when it comes to speakers of this calibre...
