My moms 2001 Pathfinders cd player broke and im looking for a new one for her, she only wants one where she can control from the steering wheel, You know them little buttons on the steering wheel so you can skip songs turn up volume and ect? If I buy an aftermarket cd player will i still be able to do that?
You will have to buy an interface that has an IR eye that is mounted somewhere pointing towards the new radio. The interface is programmed using the steering wheel controls and the remote to the stereo. I think the interface can be a little pricey though so shop around. Peripheral makes one, model number PESWIX, msrp is about $100 but I am sure you can find it cheaper. Good Luck!

Is it kinda like you hook it all up and program it and then store it somewhere in your car? or do you program it and then you can just throw it away? i kinda dont get it... The box is kinda big, where would you be able to put it in your car at?
Think of it like a regular universal remote, like the one you probly have for your home tv/dvd/stereo. The difference is that instead of having it's own buttons, it uses the steering wheel buttons. It has a ir emmitter, that little thing at the end of the black cable, you have to hide that somewhere so that it is pointing at your HU. Then hide the box under the dash. The box is really very small, I have the sister unit, ir repeater, and it's less than 2 inches long. I have it because my HU is hidden away to make room for my PC monitor, I plan on getting this one too to control the PC. You can use this on almost any HU that has a remote of its own. The only that they list that it won't work with are sony and you don't want them any way. I know for a fact it will work with Alpine.
